A sweet escape from Sofia – Pasarel

Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, is a nice city to be. However, the weather is getting nicer so everyone is on the street, in the parks. And let’s be honest, it’s gonna be crazy because we all were waiting for the sunny days the whole winter.

A sweet escape from the crowd in the capital – Pasarel. The Pasarel dam is a nice area just 30 min from Sofia by car. There is a small rope bridge on the left of the road. On the right side of the bridge, there is a parking area where you can park your car and cross the bridge. On the other side of the bridge starts a nice path in the mountain. You will have a nice view of the Pasarel dam and can observe the Villa Pasarel area. If you brought food with you, you can have a nice lunch under the shadow of the trees with a view to the Pasarel dam.

If you didn’t get food with you, don’t worry. I have a really nice suggestion for lunch  – Golden Fish (Златната рибка). Here you can taste really fresh fish. The place is bringing the spirit of the ’90s of Bulgarian culture.

This trip is really easy to be organized, no need to think about extra baggage. Just bring your comfortable shoes and your smile. Cheers! Enjoy the sunny days in Bulgaria. Bulgarian nature is going to be so amazing! As always!

Nowadays we have a lot of choices about how to spend our vacation. The variety of options makes it a difficult decision. We need to spend time and energy before we are ready to travel to our next booked destination.

Let’s go to the topic. I spent amazing time in the SPA and Wellness paradise Pirin Park Hotel near the city of Sandanski. And I just can’t stand calm without sharing my great time here!

IMG_20181020_174355

What should I start with? It’s a five-star hotel, ok! And the money worth! Nice welcome. Cool SPA zone, space for relaxing. Inside and outside pools. Bio sauna, aroma sauna, two different steam bathrooms with relaxing music and lights. Emotional tropical showers. Mineral water, a variety of massages and aroma therapies.

They have two restaurants – Mediterranean and Balkan. Variety of fresh and delicious food. Breakfast included in most of the packages. The breakfast includes so many different ways to start the day with a smile. Healthy food. Good wines. Good quality of the service. Piano bar.

The hotel is orientated to families with kids. Nice area for them to play, to paint and to have a good time while their parents are relaxing.

I suggest taking a luxury room with a nice view of the terrace to the river. You will listen to the song of nature while drinking wine or coffee.

The service is cool. It is super clean.

Pirin Park Hotel!

Definitely, a place to come back! Also, Sandanski city is a nice one. A green city with a cool park and Main Street with coffees, bars, shops.

Rodopi mountain is calling you! Levochevo and Chepelare in the winter!

In the Central Rodopi mountain, there is a small village called Levochevo. When entering the village there is a sign “Welcome in a piece of Paradise”. We are driving slowly in a really tiny road between some cows. It smells of the village and the beautiful nature prepares you for gorgeous views.

Welcome to Levochevo

I am making jokes that this is the “Bulgarian Tivoli” ( Tivoli is an Italian cute city) because it really has these small cobblestone streets and the food is so delicious. Every house keeps the old traditional look and at the same time the modern way of living. The oldest houses dated from 1876. Some of the houses have names – traditional Bulgarian names. It is so nice to see how the Bulgarian spirit has been kept for years here in Levochevo, in the heart of Rodopi mountain.

The biggest Festival in Levochevo is during the traditional Bulgarian celebration of “Илинден”. During this Festival the whole village is on the main square and everyone is dancing the Bulgarian traditional dance horo.

The views are simply fantastic as the village Levochevo is on a high hill and when you look down you see a big part of Rodopi mountain, many different shades of green color! It is so relaxing, there is no rush and you are infected by this calmness immediately.

Chepelare – my favorite choice for skiing resort in Bulgaria, is around 14 km away from Levochevo town. The trip to both destinations Chepelare and Levochevo can be combined. Chepelare is an amazing winter destination in Bulgaria. The ski slopes are long, wide and beautiful. There are slopes for everyone – from amateurs to professionals. The Rodopi mountain loves all her guests and shows its majesty every day.

The city of the Bulgarian Tsars and Emen’s fairy tales.

Bulgaria has been established in 681. An old country with history and traditions. Situated on the Balkans and part of Europe. It is an amazing country for a trip because of its beautiful nature. Impressive mountains, The Black Sea beaches, the spirit of the Old Bulgarian traditions, the delicious food, the home-made wine and the traditional alcoholic drink rakiya – these are just a few things everyone can really enjoy in Bulgaria. There are really cheap offers for flights to Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, so no matter of the season it is totally worth it to visit this small but extremely charming country!

Tsarevec, Veliko Turnovo, Bulgaria

Our trip starts at Sofia and we are going to Veliko Turnovo city, situated in Stara Planina mountain region. We drive 2 hours by car. The architecture of the city is unique, all the streets in the Old city are cobblestone and there are many historical places in the city of Veliko Turnovo – churches, old buildings.

IMG_20171230_135915_HDR
Welcome to Tsarevec! Veliko Turnovo! Bulgaria

Veliko Turnovo was Bulgarian historical capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire. It is called the cities of the Tsars because the Bulgarian emperors had lived there and build city-state fortress. There are 3 hills – Tsarevec, Trapezitsa, and Sveta Gora. The river Yantra crossed the city and forms amazing Canyon in the mountain Stara Planina.

IMG_20171230_140306_HDR
The entrance of Tsarevec is just 3 EUR

The fortress Tsarevec is very famous because of the audiovisual spectacle “Sound and Light” which is performed every year during national holidays and festivals of the city Veliko Turnovo. It is FREE and it is performed no matter the weather conditions. It is an outdoor spectacle.

The “Sound and Light” is a spectacular thunderous show presenting the dramatic history of the Second Bulgarian State. One of the best dates to be watched are 3 and 22 March and 6 September. This time of the year the weather usually is very nice.

IMG_20171230_142244_HDR
View from the Baldwin tower in Tsarevec

After visiting Veliko Turnovo our last stop is 8 km away – Village Emen. The village is an eco place where you can relax in a quiet and calm place. Complex “Imenieto”  (click on teh name to find their facebook page) was my choice to stay and I love it. So much green area around, so cozy place with space for outdoor activities, a nice pool and volleyball playground. There is a spa included and the kitchen is really nice. The food is home-made and extremely delicious! This complex contains 8 wooden houses close to the forest. It smells so fresh and you could sleep so well.

IMG_20171230_165531_HDR-EFFECTS

In the village Emen there is a famous Canyon called Emenski Canyon, The cave of Emen and the echo path Emen.

Massive rocks, impressive view and an adventurous path will lead you to the epicenter of the Emen’s fairy tale. It smells on fresh moss, the Waterfall of the Emenski Canyon is calling you from the beginning of the echo path. You are trying to get to this waterfall and the road is intriguing.

The Canyon and the Waterfall of the village Emen are with faerie energy and the beautiful nature around is simply amazing. I feel the Bulgarian mountain is alive and it beats with the rhythm of the rocks, the wind, the water and the sky – perfect harmony between nature and her guests!

Here we are – Kavaci, region Burgas. It is between Burgas and Sozopol – so it is really reachable destination on the Bulgarian Black sea.

Destination Kavaci on the Black sea

There is a forest around to decorate the camping area of Kavaci. The subject of protection here is the rare Pontic white dunes and the characteristic sand-dunes.

20150821_184602

The name of the district Kavaci originates from the word “kavak” which in Turkish means the poplar, and is so named because of the poplars that grow in the area.

20150821_182809

Laying on the beach, drinking cocktail, reading a book… And watching the seagulls’ dance in the air… sounds like a paradise and it is possible! Kavaci. Black sea! Bulgaria!

I was there in September, so my pictures are a little bit different from the usual summer pictures. But I think the beauty of the place is so obvious. Follow me!

I like the area because it’s calm and I can practice sport activities on the Black sea beaches here (That’s why I decided to go in September), I can stay alone and just breathe. And of course there are beach bars in Kavaci for the time when your summer party spirit will get wild.

I’ve never seen anything more beautiful than the sea before storming!

Let’s discover Sofia!

  1. Painting and drinking wine at the newest hit in Sofia – Rosso

Have you heard about this place? It is painting and wine bar in Lozenets, Sofia. Rosso. Charming atmosphere, nice people and so much art on this place!

IMG_20161229_215117.jpg

You can paint your best picture while drinking wine.

During the whole time an experienced painter is helping you. His explanations and ideas are so good, so no matter how “unarty” you think you are, you will have really nice picture to take at home.img_20161229_213436

Rosso has a facebook page and you can trace their events. Also check the locations in the facebook page. It’s really fantastic place to go and relax creatively!

  1. Karting

Sofia Ring Mall has indoor karting and you can drift yourself! If you are a group of friends, they can organize a competition and wake up your sport spirit! The karting has challenging runways so be careful!

  1. Skiing/ exploring Vitosha mountain

The best thing you can do during the winter is to go and celebrate the snow. Sofia has a big advantage as an European capital –  it’s close to Vitosha mountain. In fact, Sofia is the only one European capital with a mountain really near to the city center! So if you do skiing, go to feel the mountain. If not, you can always learn. At least there is a fantastic paths you can have a fresh walk.

For skiing in Vitosha mountain more info check here

For just nice walks – Vitosha mountain again is the right place. It’s no more than 30 – 40 minutes far away from the city center of Sofia!

After the beautiful walk/ skiing it’s strongly recommended to eat in guesthouse “Moten” as the food is one of the most delicious and represents the Bulgarian traditional kitchen.

  1. Karaoke

Yes, You can do it! How about some cocktails with friends and after that you can sing together your favorite songs. I can recommend one cozy place in Student city area. Student city is a place especially for young students, there are plenty of bars, discos, caffees. If you want to party, this is where most of the people in Sofia regularly go.

Let’s go back to the karaoke night. I recommend – Sound Wave. Really nice modest bar for everyone! Find them here.

They have a big big list of songs which can be sung, so no way to have a bad night there.

It’s a rock bar so it’s time for headbanging!

  1. Spa

In Sofia, there are plenty of hotels where you can swim and relax the whole day.

I recommend Victoria Spa in Ramada hotel. The facilities are nice, it’s clean and the pool is huge, which is important if you want to swim. They have relaxing area, two saunas, steam bath, big pool and pool for kids, Jacuzzi, massages, fitness and group sport activities.

More information you can easily find on their site.

  1. Escape rooms

Entertain, friends, thinking, new challenge, secrets… Yes, all these you can feel if you try some of Sofia escape rooms. It is a room where you and friends need to discover, explore and find the answers of puzzles from different areas. It helps you also to develop your team building skills.

The full list of all escape rooms in Sofia can be found here, so don’t wait and book your new challenge!

No matter of your nationality almost all escape rooms in Sofia have English versions.

  1. Boom! Burgers N Steaks

Why not having an amazing burger, specialized exactly for you. Find the place here in the city center of Sofia. You can arrange the perfect burger for you, they have plenty of combinations. Boom yourself with a burger!

If you overeat, you can always have a nice walk on the main Sofia boulevard Vitoshka. It’s a really charming area, one of my favorite for a walk.

Check also and St. Alexander Nevsky Bulgarian Orthodox cathedral in the city center of Sofia.

  1. Latino dances

Well, this is one of my passions. It’s being more and more promoted recently. There are organized classes by reputable dance schools. My school is Salsa Ritmo and I believe they are the best!

My teachers – Tedy & Mitko, become the 4th in the world this winter in bachata style! Check Salsa Ritmo’s site here and choose a class! They also have a facebook page with news and exciting Latino events.

Also there are plenty of places to go just for salsa party dancing. They are very social latino events, you can meet really interesting people and burn some calories, while having fun!

I have two favorites for Latino parties in Sofia:

  1. Kango jumps

Well, let’s jump into the world of Kango jums. It is recently very popular in Sofia to try this sport activity. I really enjoy it. It is a mix of cardio and burning exercises on a loud music. The feeling is refreshing and you can stay slim and feel beautiful! Almost in each neighbourhood of Sofia there are Kango jump facilities. Be crazy, cool and fit with Kango jumps.

  1. Ice skating

Well, one of my favorite activities during the winter. Actually you can practice them only when it’s winter. Ice skating in Sofia is available for you on many places. Check the list here thanks to two amazing travel bloggers and sisters. Their site is fascinating.

My favorite ice skating places in Sofia are the Winter Palace (it is in Student city, Sofia) and Ariana lake ( in the city center of Sofia).

Love the winter! Do you?

Devetashka cave/ Деветашката пещера

Where we are now? Village Devetaki, 21 km from Lovech city. It’s your choice if you first will go to Devetaki and Devetashka cave or Lovech. They are on your road. I saved Lovech city for the last part of the trip, on my way back to Sofia.

Destination Devetashka cave

There are many information sites about the cave so I will not spend so many time on this because I don’t want to be boring. Just to say briefly:

  • Thracians and Romans lived there
  • more than 700 hundred types of rearmouses
  • The Expendables movie was taken there with Arnold Schwarzenegger
  • Wiki if you need more

What to expect? Follow me 🙂

Whimsical open spaces on the “roof”. I have the feeling someone is watching us. 20150830_100444

I love the Bulgarian nature! You should spend some great time in Bulgaria!

Krushunski waterfalls/ Крушунски водопади

Now it is autumn but the sunny day today reminds me and inspires me to write about my summer adventure to Krushunski waterfalls (Крушунски водопади). From Sofia, it takes around 2 hours and a half to reach Krushuna village (с.Крушуна). There are many organized trips in Sofia which includes Krushuna waterfalls plus Lovech city and Devetashka cave. It can be self-organized also and both ways it’s cheap trip and it’s totally worth it!

Destination Krushuna waterfalls

Once you reach the village of Krushuna (North Bulgaria), you take the road to Krushunski waterfalls and you need to walk on the nice eco path. There are signs to guide you to and through the echo path. The entry is paid – 2-3 BGN (around 1.5 EUR) regular price.

Let’s the journey began!

20150830_113537

The echo path of Krushunski waterfalls is short, it can be crossed within an hour and so beautiful! There are many small waterfall cascades very close to you. The reflection of the limestone in the rocks makes the water crystal blue and you want to swim or at least touch it! Krushunski waterfalls are famous for the beauty of the waterfalls, they are not very big but very charming. The water descends gracefully on the rocks, softly splash between the mountain of Krushuna mountain.

20150830_113808

While looking on all your sides, discovering water wonders on every step, you reach the top of the echo path and there are some small caves and magnificent rocks.

20150830_120524

There is another way to get down of the top. Both ways are amazing, most comfortable is to use the same road, as your car/bus will be parked closer.

The Krushunski waterfalls will propose you special places to stay, to listen to music, talk with friends, do some exercise. I did 🙂

It is a really beautiful area, very reachable and you can spend from 2 to 5 hours there depending what are your plans for the day.

The travel plan can be blended with a nice visit to Lovech city which is close to Krushuna village, also Devetashka cave is nearby and intrigues the tourist.

If I was water, I would be waterfall because of the perfection and the beauty I will distribute to the world!

Krushuna waterfalls definitely deserve your attention and admiration.

Enjoy!
